BP

British petroleum is located in London and is one of the worlds largest companies trading in gas, oil and chemicals all over world.
As a glamorous brand like some of the others mentioned on the blog then BP does not rank in the same way but when it comes to pure corporate success and profits then no-one touches them.

BP has been working hard on making fuel more environmentally friendly and has been involved in many successful projects including wind farm and solar panels to name a few.

In 2001 BP went through a re-branding exercise and changed its logo and its full trading name to reinvent itself in the 21st century.

2010 in the Gulf of Mexico things took a turn for BP with a huge oil spill which was heavily condemned by the US government and President Obama was extremely vocal in blaming the British based company which at one point was looking like the special relationship bonded between the British and US governments for many years was looking shaky but British prime minister David Cameron met with Obama and sorted things out!

BMW

When we talk about top brands we love then BMW must feature in this list.

For many many years BMW has been a favourite choice of car because of fantastic performance, great range of models to suit everyone and good reliability.

German engineering combined with modern styling is why BMW stay ahead of the game. In the last few years they have increased their range to include entry level 1 series models, four wheels drives like the x1, x3,x5 and more recently x6 and also sports models like the z4. For some people this was seen as a bad move as previously BMW has stuck more in the 3,5 and 7 series saloon models but by opening the range BMW are tapping in to a bigger market allowing them to be competitive in the future by reinvesting in design and innovation.

Until 2010 BMW had participated in F1 but because the team had underperformed and the credit crunch BMW group had decided to pull out and effectively selling the team back to Peter Sauber the former owner.

In the UK we love BMW and if you are car watching at any time you do not have to wait long before spotting a BMW model driving along the road!

Nintendo

Up to around 2007 Nintendo was really way down the list of modern and innovative gaming companies behind Sony, xbox and pc based games.

Since the launch of the DS its mini hand held games system and the magical Wii system they are now rated one of the top manufacturers.

The Nintendo Wii has revolutionised gaming with its motion based consoles which suits all ages and creates more families to want to play together opposed to other systems which are more akin to single player games.

Recently Nintendo has announced it is planning a 3d version of the ds games console in late 2010 which will continue to elevate the brand in the serious gamers market place.

As a result Nintendo has created a huge brand following all over the world in such a short period of time and for that reason it is featured on consumer brands blog.

Dyson

James Dyson has been long recognised as one of the best and innovative creators in the world and his range of vacuums for the home just get better and better.

Starting with the DC01 which was yellow in colour the Dyson was the first to introduce a bag less cleaning device which had a powerful motor. This resulted in the machine working very well and became very popular.

Dyson has also invented smaller hand held machines suitable for cleaning cars or curtains and just about anything that is a smaller area. He has also invented a powerful but effective hand drying device used in toilets which is called a blade drier.

Dyson are a British company but in the last few years raised a few eyebrows when it decided to move its manufacturing to the far east where labour is cheaper but keep the design and research centre in the UK.

In such a short period of time Dyson has done remarkably well to be in top consumer brands we love but sure they will be here for some time.

Their TV advertising at Christmas with the Santa drinking a bottle of Cola is one of the best adverts and touches the heart strings in the young and old!

    F1

After a wonderful weekend F1 race at the British Grand Prix i thought we should include F1 as part our most loved brands.

Sometimes we might not think about F1 as a brand in its own right but it is. We might have a favourite team like Red Bull, Mercedes, Mclaren or Ferrari or a popular driver like Lewis Hamilton or Jensen Button but all of this framework we see works under the guidance of the F1 brand run by Bernie Ecclestone.

In the last few years F1 has seen a difficult time particularly in 2009 when there was talk of a breakaway from F1 and we had the scandals of Renault and Ferrari and Mclaren but on the race track there is continued magic as the teams and drivers fight for top spots which in turn gives us the public a great spectacle.

The F1 administration are looking for new parts of the world to host races and this is why the season is extended and there are new races including Singapore, Valencia and Abu Dabu with more street races and even a night race which is amazing to watch the cars going round in the dark surrounded by powerful street lights! New places the F1 team are exploring include India, South Africa and the USA. In the states they have the Indy races but there are fast but fairly boring compared to F1.

Well done to F1 for keeping the races interesting and developing new circuits and concepts to keep us on the edge of our seats.

    BBC

The BBC or beeb as it is also known is a well known and much loved brand in the UK and all across the world as it still continues to entertain us today as it did fifty years ago.

Today the BBC has many different arms and this ranges from music, tv, production and digital and even though it is run from license payers money there is a commercial arm called BBC worldwide which sells, programs, dvd’s and merchandise.

Whether we like it or not the BBC has done a brilliant job of making our TV and radio much improved as it pushes the commercial channels to offer improved products and services and one example of this is the BBC I player which both ITV and BSKYB have both replicated for their own programs.

The BBC is never going to pay top money for premiership football games and rightly so as people like BSKYB want to pay over the odds then no BBC executive should be using license payers money to compete but use funds to continue produce good quality programs.
During the last recession the beeb has to make cutbacks on its top paid staff and this has resulted in the loss of Jonathon Ross and Adrian Chiles to ITV.

We continue to love the BBC as it brings through new talent to our screens and this is why it is still one of our most loved brands.

    British Airways

British Airways is a truly iconic British brand and one most us are very proud of but in the last few years since the dawn of budget airlines BA as its known has hit some turbulence.

BA is known for its quality and high standard in the airline industry and bases its model on these principles and not on price but since the launch of cheaper airlines has struggled to fill seats and has seen profits tumble.

Currently locked in a dispute with its cabin staff over pay and benefits the money and reputation of this giant airline has been battered even further.

The problem for many people is they would only fly BA if the prices were lower and standards maintained which is something that is difficult to achieve.

British airways has just merged with Iberia the Spanish carrier as it hopes to save costs and be able to pass on to its customers.

BA is a huge brand and hopefully recovers through the current economic difficulties and maintains its position as one of the UK’s best loved brands.

    Microsoft

When it comes to brands they do not come much bigger than Microsoft.

They would definitely fall in the love them and hate them bracket depending on your view at that moment in time. There is little doubt Microsoft have pioneered the computer age with their software and they command large market share particularly in the business market. For consumers there is a new wave of software including cloud computing like Android from Google or linux software and this is before we talk about the emergence of Apple with its range of systems and software which has a loyal following.

Microsoft operate in not just the PC Market but also has an OS for mobile and this has been very successful until more recent and again the smartphone market has seen a shift to devices like iphone, blackberry and again android.

It is competing and recently launched a range of cloud based software which does not sit on the pc but resides on Microsoft’s servers and this is good news for anyone using several computers as this allows you to access the same files using an internet connection.

With the emergence of new brands i wonder if Microsoft will continue to command our respect as one of the worlds most loved brands. We take our hats off to you at Microsoft!
